Can I Delete Logs in Our Biometric Device?
Managing employee attendance through biometric devices requires accuracy, security, and proper maintenance—especially when dealing with device storage limits. A common question that arises is whether it is safe to delete or clear logs directly from the biometric device.
Will Deleting Logs Affect Existing Records?
The good news is that refreshing or resetting your biometric device—which clears its locally stored logs—will not affect any attendance records already saved in your system.
Since the logs have already been successfully synced in Sprout HR, deleting or clearing logs from the biometric device will not affect the records stored in Sprout HR.
For example, all employee log records from January to October 2025 will remain intact and accessible. The system securely retains historical attendance data, ensuring continuity and reliability in your records.
Important Reminder Before Resetting
Although clearing device logs is safe for system records, it is strongly recommended to extract raw logs before performing any reset. This step ensures you have a backup copy for verification, auditing, or future reference.
You may follow this guide on extracting raw logs for step-by-step instructions: How to Extract Raw Biologs from the Biometric Device.
Best Practices
- Regularly monitor your biometric device storage capacity
- Perform routine backups of raw logs
- Only reset the device after confirming data synchronization
- Keep a copy of extracted logs for record-keeping
By following these practices, you can confidently maintain your biometric device without risking the integrity of your employee attendance data.
