Handling Overtime on a “Special Working Holiday” in Sprout HR
Overview
For the Special Working Holiday, like February 25, 2026, the system is configured as a Mandatory Working Holiday with No Premium Pay by default. This article outlines the two primary methods for managing employee attendance and overtime for this specific day.
Option 1: Maintain as a Mandatory Working Holiday
Use this method if you want to keep the schedule tagged as a "Holiday" in your attendance reports for record-keeping purposes.
Employee Guidelines:
- Regular Shift: No action is required. Employees follow their regular plotted schedule.
- Overtime (OT): If an employee works beyond their regular hours, they must file a Schedule Adjustment (SA) before they can apply for Overtime (OT) pay.
- Shift Changes: If an employee works a shift different from their plotted schedule, a Schedule Adjustment (SA) is required.
Option 2: Convert to an Ordinary Working Day
This is the most efficient method if you wish to bypass the need for Schedule Adjustments (SA) for employees who work overtime. By unticking the date, the system treats it as a standard working day.
Steps to Untick the Holiday:
- Navigate to the Maintenance Tab on your Sprout HR dashboard.
- Select Company from the dropdown menu.
- Click on Holidays.
- Open the Default Holiday Plan (or the active plan your company is currently using).
- Locate the holiday, for example, February 25 in the list.
- Untick/Uncheck the box next to the date.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Save.

Benefits:
- No Schedule Adjustment (SA) Required: Employees can file Overtime (OT) directly without an accompanying Schedule Adjustment.
- Simpler Logs: The day is tagged as a "Regular Day" in attendance logs.

Note: If your company policy requires specific reporting on "Holiday Hours" worked for annual audits, Option 1 is preferred. If your priority is reducing administrative steps for employees, Option 2 is the best choice.
