How Does Half Day Leave Work for Employees on Normal Shift

Normal Shift employees’ attendance when they have approved half day leave depends on their schedule for that date – regardless of the no. of hours to work set on their profiles. Below is the formula on how to determine the first half and the second half of their shift for the day:

(No. of hours from shift start to shift end - Break) / 2

Example 1:

Shift Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (9 hours)

Break: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (1 hour)

Using the formula:

= (9 - 1) / 2

4 hours

Hence, half day work is composed of 4 hours - the first half is from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and the second half is from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

Example 2:

Shift Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (9 hours)

Break: 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM (30 minutes)

Using the formula:

= (9 - 0.50) / 2

4.25 hours

Hence, half day work is composed of 4.25 hours - the first half is from 8:00 AM - 12:15 PM and the second half is from 12:45 PM - 5:00 PM.
